A surprisingly short trip

Natasha and Robert

When we first arrived we were surprised to learn how short the flight from NYC to Montréal was. It normally takes 1 h 25 to get from New York La Guardia to Montréal-Trudeau. We were lucky, our Air Canada pilot took 45 minutes getting to Montréal. We certainly loved the way they fly—getting you to your destination before the estimated time of arrival.

We were greeted and welcomed by Flavie and Charles, our cameraman, then off we went to explore Old Montréal.

Bonjour, Montréal!

Natasha and Robert

This city is charming, magical and full of treasures. We observed that the residents here were very relaxed and easy going.

We were reminded of Europe over and over again with the cobblestone streets, historical buildings, Old Port, bicycles, and the wonderful horse-drawn carriages everywhere. As we continued to walk the streets of Montréal, we noticed how warmly people greeted us.

The weather was somewhat co-operative with us, which made it all the more memorable. We really loved the St. Lawrence River and the rich culture of the people in Montréal. The churches here are so divinely built they really conjure up strong emotions in me.

The feeling of wanting to live this experience each day was inspiring, and we created unforgettable memories. We will always look back on this experience and be thankful for this opportunity to discover the wonderful province of Québec.

We must say that visiting Montréal’s different neighbourhoods was really inspiring for us. We enjoyed a detailed tour by Ruby, who was very patient in answering our questions and exposed us to the rich history of the city. Everyone in Montréal was friendly and made eye contact when greeting us. We adored and commend the very economical forms of transportation, some of which are bicycles, buses, taxis, trains, and let’s not forget the horse-drawn carriages! Montréal is truly a very fun, friendly and accessible city.

Our curiosity and senses were aroused simply by strolling around the old, charming streets of Montréal. Many of the places we visited will have a very special place in our hearts: St. Paul Street with its exhibit spaces and fine boutiques showcasing original creations by different artists and designers, restaurants and small cafés, and of course the nightclubs. The cobblestone streets and the vintage streetlights surely add to the historic décor.

Every turn we took was interesting and delightful, from the romantic balconies with flowers displayed all over the city, to the farmer’s market, to the quays of the Old Port, to de la Commune Street, to St. Jacques Street with its decorative motifs sculpted on buildings and endless bell towers. It all contributes to Montréal’s exceptional heritage and unique aesthetic landscape. Indeed Montréal offers something for everyone.

We love French dining, French architecture, French art and the French language. We’ve decided that our kids must have French as a second language and we will be back for our honeymoon. We will experience this all over again. Everyone here spoke English, was polite and cordial. And above all, we love the fun summer activities and festivals, which are offered all around the city at no cost.

The Delta Centre-ville: In the heart of the city

Natasha and Robert

When we arrived at the Delta Hotel the first thing we noticed was that it was conveniently nestled in downtown Montréal. As we were checking in, the people at the front desk made us feel welcome. Our suite was impressive with its vaulted ceilings and panoramic views of the city.

We took a break by going to the hotel bar and having a few cocktails, before embarking on our next adventure. When we returned to our suite, to our delight there was a chocolate arrangement with a welcoming card. We must say those small details made us feel special. The pool was relaxing and the spa was amazing. Their signature lodge, where we had breakfast, was located on the 30th floor and displayed some of the best views of the city and the St. Lawrence River.

Overall, this hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Montréal where the nearby tourist attractions are located, and is also in easy walking distance from the night life, restaurants, shops, Old Port, subway, farmer’s market and let’s not forget the St. Lawrence River.

A street full of laughter

Natasha and Robert

We also experienced the Just for Laughs Festival, which gave us a new perspective on how Montréal views humour from an artful perspective. The Grand Deambulatoire took place at the corner of St. Denis Street and Ontario E.

The show used projected images along with a choreographed approach, filled with plenty of acrobatics. The show filled the air with smoke, chilling music, fire and fear. The experience felt surreal with its displays of flamboyant costumes and mobile sculptures. All while fireworks exploded in mid air!

However, my fiancé Robert wished he had a pair of wings to just fly away—LOL—while witnessing this interesting event. He was blown away, full of wonder and fear. I on the other hand could not stop laughing and laughing! It was truly an event that transformed the street into a big dance club with tables, chairs, food, drinks, and all sorts of different styles of dance and entertainment.
